Munkácsy in Hajdúszoboszló – A World-Class Exhibition in the Heart of the Spa Town

In 2025, a special cultural event awaits art lovers in Hajdúszoboszló: to mark the 180th anniversary of Mihály Munkácsy’s birth and the 125th anniversary of his death, a grand exhibition has opened in the city. Hosted by the Kovács Máté Cultural Centre and Library, this impressive exhibition is open to visitors from March 21 to September 28, 2025.
The exhibition showcases nearly 80 works by the world-renowned painter, most of which have been brought to Hajdúszoboszló thanks to the private collection of Imre Pákh, with the collaboration of the Munkácsy Foundation. In addition to Munkácsy’s monumental and well-known masterpieces, the exhibition features genre scenes, portraits, and rarely displayed sketches, offering visitors a more comprehensive view of his diverse and evolving artistic legacy.
The experience is further enriched by regular guided tours, turning the exhibition into an engaging and interactive cultural journey. A highlighted event is the Night of Museums on June 21, 2025, when free guided tours will be offered at 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM – registration is required in advance.
